HINDU SCRIPTURES OF ETERNAL TRUTH

 

 

VEDAS

Oldest religious texts were composed in Vedic Sanskrit.There are four Vedas:

  • Rig Veda: This Veda contains about 1000 hymns or mantras of various deities. 
  • Yajur Veda: A collection of mantras and verses for use in the performance of yajnas
  • Sama Veda: book of Samans, chants and melodies to be sung during worship and the performance of yajna.
  • Atharva Veda: Atharva Veda is a book  about environmental science and astronomy, It is believed to be the origin of Ayurveda

UPANISHADS

Unwritten Scriptures transmitted by oral tradition about Hindu dharma and philosophy.  Upanishad exhibits unity of unity and diversity structure for the whole of humanity. Human beings are part of Paramatma. The ultimate self (atman) is only a part of the whole (Brahman). Second earliest and the second most important sacred text in Hinduism Written in Sanskrit
Philosophical discussions between philosophers. The goal of Upanishad achieving Enlightenment; identifying Brahman (our universal soul); fusing Atman with Brahman i.e., unifying individual with universal. Upanishads begin with peace invocations called Shanti Patha for the whole of humanity.

RAMAYANA

The epic narrates the life of Rama’s Sacrifice, love, separation, conflict, and redemption. Ramayana is a story of victory over evil forces.  He shows an Ideal way of lifestyle. Lord Rama and Goddess Sita are examples of perfection. It is a story about Ram who married Sita. Sita was kidnapped by Ravana. With help from the monkey god, Ram rescues Sita. The moral of Ramayana is that Dharma always prevails over Adharma. Ramayana teaches us to fulfil our roles in society. Lord Ram is the epitome of kindness, compassion, and love.

MAHABHARATA

The oldest and longest poem in human history. The story is between two different clans; Pandava and Kaurava who go to fight a war. Arjuna doesn’t want to kill loved but  Krishna tells him that those who die will bear back in another life. Arjuna goes on to win the battle. The moral of Mahabharat is that Sacrifices must be made in order to achieve victory and righteousness. Yudhishthir became King after Pandavas won the war.

BHAGAVAD GITA

The Bhagavad Gita, “The Song of the Lord”, is the recorded words of  Krishna Bhagavan to Arjuna. The Bhagavad Gita is the best known of all the Indian scriptures. It is a story of battlefield enlightenment where Sri Krishna answers fundamental questions of life. Bhagavad-Gita is a treatise that is especially meant for the devotee of the Lord. Bhagavad Gita was originally written in Sanskrit. Krishna lays out essential Hindu Dharma concepts: of duty (dharma), moral choice and consequence (karma) and discipline (yoga), as well as the nature of the divine essence (Brahman), and its relationship to the self (Atman). Geeta teaches us to follow the path of Dharma as taught in our scriptures and continue doing all our required duties throughout our live without desire for the fruits.
